Artist Statement

For years my work has been addressing the seminal issues of personal identity, psychological conflict and mortality – the fragmentary and fragile nature of existence and the common human desire to make sense of it.
Images & oils are intuitively chosen to mirror our inner and outer world, to trigger subconscious connections to memory and to elicit an emotional response in the viewer. 3D objects may be added to the surface – these personal and societal, organic and inorganic ‘artifacts’ are collected and arranged in order to reinforce the pictorial narrative and enhance the textural quality and depth of the piece. Photographs may be transferred to the surface - they are direct links to our past and not so distant past, and add another dimension. Content laden phrases and disparate narrative entries are often woven throughout, creating a feeling of ongoing thought processes, dreams, or an eternal conversation.
